The field of corporate governance is currently at an important crossroads. Advancements in technology, changing social systems, political transformations and rising demands for accountability have impacted our understanding of good governance. As one of the founding members of the Advances in Corporate Governance journal and as the current chair of the Research Forum at the Good Governance Academy, I have witnessed first-hand how the complexity of governance has grown. In response to this dynamic environment, we proposed the idea of a journal that will not only present new developments in the field but will encourage discussions that result in practical dialogue between theory and practice.

At its core, Advances in Corporate Governance aims to be more than just a repository of scholarly work; it strives to be a catalyst for positive change globally. With each issue, it is our mission to publish scholarly work that is not only innovative and relevant but also reflects a diversity of perspectives and methodologies that also have practical implications. The focus remains on contemporary developments and actionable insights to enable our readers, who include policymakers, academics and practitioners, to engage with content that directly informs governance practices.

The Good Governance Research Forum was founded to create an intellectual environment that supports and promotes academic inquiry and facilitates global collaboration on critical business issues and governance-related research. The Forum’s purpose resonates deeply with the journal’s mission as both aim to advance the principles of good governance and ethical leadership, forming a complementary network for those who seek to elevate corporate governance practice in public, private and non-profit sectors. As the Good Governance Research Forum, we work according to a specific value framework that defines our approach to conducting research and sharing the outcomes. This was established with the understanding that good governance must be shaped by diversity, and hence, we incorporate that into our governance policy. We uphold high ethical standards and moral values mainly because we consider sound governance to be a product of accountability and transparency. In accordance with these principles, the Forum invests in research projects and discussion forums that bring together thought leaders and practitioners. These values are mirrored in our journal, which is why I believe that Advances in Corporate Governance stands as a natural extension of the mandate of the Good Governance Academy and its Research Forum.

The journal, therefore, serves a dual purpose: it is both a scholarly journal and a working resource for practitioners in corporate governance. For this reason, we welcome research presenting local, practical experience that is innovative and solution orientated. I firmly believe that Advances in Corporate Governance can contribute to knowledge creation that not only reflects contemporary realities but also anticipates future developments in corporate governance. This perspective is more relevant today as corporate governance must navigate a landscape of environmental, social and governance accountability in a dynamic technological era. Research that provides an understanding of how these trends impact governance structures will be essential for developing a robust body of knowledge that is prepared to address future issues.

We also pay great attention to the accessibility and diversity of the journal. We appreciate that the existing trends in academic publishing might negatively influence scholars and practitioners in terms of gaining access to knowledge. Hence, our intention is to provide open access to the journal and make it conveniently available for corporate governance researchers and practitioners. As a result, we can engage a more diverse readership, fostering greater collaboration and dialogue across borders and disciplines. As part of the Research Forum, I have seen how academic research can change the way governance is performed when it is accessible, relevant and actionable. This experience has reinforced my conviction that the journal can play a transformative role in shaping corporate governance globally.

In conclusion, it is evident that Advances in Corporate Governance is more than just a journal; it is a platform for fostering knowledge, sparking dialogue and inspiring change. I therefore stand happy to be among the founding members but equally aware of the work that lies ahead. Corporate governance is an in-depth and fast-growing field, and that is why our journal must also be progressive, continually adapting to new challenges and opportunities. I am confident that, with the continued support of our contributors, readers and broader academic and governance communities, we will continue to make a meaningful impact. We invite all those committed to advancing good governance to join us on this journey as we strive to build a more just, accountable and sustainable world.
